Roots And Branches (2001)
我的兄弟姊妹
Director: Yu Zhong
Starring:
Gigi Leung Wing-Kei, Jiang Wu, Xia Yu
The biggest box-office smash of the
year in Mainland China is a tearjerker about parents, children,
brothers, and sisters
Meet the Qi family: father, mother,
two boys, two girls. Father is a music teacher, so he is only able to
provide modestly for his family, but it's the 1970's in Mainland China,
so everybody's happy and content with their lot in life. Then fate steps
in, and the members of the Qi family are separated suddenly and
dramatically.
Twenty years pass, and the story
catches up with the grown-up children and their very different lives. Is
it possible for the siblings to restablish their loving family
relationship in the modern day?
Cui Jian, described by critic Tony
Rayns as "the father of Chinese rock music," plays the father; Jian Wu
(Shower) and Xia Yu (Shadow Magic) play the adult sons, and Gigi Leung
plays the oldest daughter.

their children to see or hear. Nudity, drug use, explicit
